Thigh high boots can be a challenge to fit and can get pretty expensive, so here’s how to create the illusion of thigh high boots without the investment. All you need is heels and matching leggings!
There are two ways you can do it- with the stocking over the shoe, or in the shoe. In my Zatanna cosplay photo below, I am wearing patent leather heels and the Wet Look Thigh Highs by Leg Avenue.
The trick is to match the color perfectly and the material. If you want to create the look of thigh high black leather boots, then the Wet Look thigh highs are a great choice. I’m wearing the M/L size, but I think a S/M might have been better as these kept slipping a bit.

Faking the Look of Thigh Highs
You have the option to wear the thigh high in the shoe or slip it over the shoe for a more seamless appearance.
Wearing stocking in the shoe
If you are going with the “in the shoe” method and are wearing thigh highs that are not nylon, you may want to go up a size in the shoe. The feet in the faux leather and vinyl styles are usually cut a little funny and can get bunchy if there isn’t enough room.
Wearing stocking over the shoe
If you are going over the shoe, it works best with a stiletto type heel. You’ll need to cut a small hole in the heel of the stocking. Cut it very small, because it will stretch!
I also recommend getting non-skid stickers for the bottom of the toe of the shoe, to keep you from slipping since it will now be covered with fabric.
If you want to keep the look permanently, you can actually cut out the bottom part and glue the stocking all the way around the sides of the shoe.
Faux Thigh High Boot Look
The photo below is the Leg Avenue style stocking worn inside the shoe. They are a polyester/spandex blend that gives the look of faux leather.
You can find these on Amazon for about $20: Faux Leather Thigh High
You’ll also find lots of similar options by other brands, however these are the only ones I’ve personally tried myself.
