Rapunzel Tangled Cosplay Dress Review and Glow Up

I got a ready-to-wear Rapunzel (aka Tangled) cosplay dress and with a little help it looked even better.

Rapunzel Dress from Tangled

The Rapunzel cosplay dress, like the one she wears in Disney’s Tangled, is available on Amazon for under $50. It was a little tight in the shoulders, but because of corset style front, I was able to adjust the laces until it fit pretty well.

Next time I wear it, I’ll probably replace the front cord style lacing with a pink ribbon.

I added extra lace around the neck and sleeves, embroidered ribbon down the front on the skirt, and a bit of glitter and rhinestones.

The Dress Before:

When you take the dress out of the package, it will probably be in need of a really good steaming or ironing. I did both just to get all the wrinkles out!

I used hot glue to add larger lace along the bottom of sleeves. Yes, you can sew it if you want to do a really good job. I went the easy route. Sometimes whatever way you can get it done is the best way to do it!

I also added the lace around the neck. Also, with hot glue.

The details on the dress appear to be screen printed, so I added more details by hot glueing an embroidered ribbon trim down the front.

Then I added glitter with puff paint and fabric glitter, and rhinestones with Jewel-It. Aileen’s Jewel-It is my favorite stuff for adding rhinestones! It dries clear and makes the jewels stick well, even after you wash it.

The Rapunzel Cosplay After:

Overall, the costume is very comfortable and easy to wear. It comes with pads in the top, but I didn’t like the way they made the top fit, so I cut them out of the top.

If you happen to try that, I found they were sewn down the middle and attached to the top, so I don’t really recommend it. I was hoping I could pull the pads out through a small hole. I ended up with two large holes in the lining! But I did like the way it fit better so it was worth it.

Braid and Makeup

I had this braid for the last 15 years, just waiting for me to do a Rapunzel cosplay. I looked and was not able to find one like this. I did find some shorter cheaper one, a few full wigs with bad reviews and some very expensive ones on Etsy.

Mine had a bit of a weird hair texture, but it was super long and perfect for the cosplay.

I hot glued all the flowers to the front and back and attached it to a ponytail at the back of my head. I had my real hair in a braid and wrapped that around where the braid extension was attached.

Rapunzel cosplay makeup

I kept my makeup lighter and used pinks and purple on the eyes. And I added freckles across my nose and cheeks, using a hair pin and brown eye shadow.

Overall, this dress is cute and comfy and a great affordable Rapunzel cosplay as-is, or with a little glow up. Click here to find it on Amazon.

The Perfect Sidekick

I recently added Rapunzel’s little chameleon Pascal to my cosplay! I found a cute plush that is magnetic and will stay on my shoulder. It works great! Find him here: Magnetic Pascal

In Disney’s Tangled, Pascal is Rapunzel’s loyal pet chameleon and best friend.

He’s a small, green, non-speaking character who communicates entirely through expressive body language and color changes. Pascal serves as Rapunzel’s confidant in the tower, offering moral support, comic relief, and the occasional nudge to push her toward adventure.

He’s also fiercely protective of her—often glaring at or challenging Flynn Rider when they first meet—and plays a part in helping her realize her own strength and independence.

Essentially, Pascal is the tiny but mighty cheerleader of the film, with a talent for side-eye that rivals any Disney sidekick.

Disney’s Tangled and Rapunzel’s Style

When Tangled swung into theaters in 2010, it gave new life to the classic Grimm fairy tale of Rapunzel.

Disney’s version traded the traditional tower-bound damsel for a spirited, creative heroine who wasn’t afraid to chase her dreams—even if it meant using her 70 feet of magical hair as rope, whip, or glowing flashlight.

The Story of Tangled

Tangled follows Rapunzel, a girl with impossibly long, glowing hair that holds healing powers. Kidnapped as a baby by Mother Gothel, she’s locked in a tower and told the outside world is too dangerous.

Her life changes when Flynn Rider, a charming thief, stumbles into her tower while fleeing the law. Together, they embark on an adventure that leads Rapunzel to discover her royal roots—and her voice.

The movie combines humor, action, and emotion, redefining what it means to be a Disney princess in the 21st century.

Rapunzel’s Dress: A Regal Yet Practical Design

Rapunzel’s iconic outfit is as much a part of her character as her hair. The dress she wears is pink and purple with puffy sleeves, a corset-style bodice, and a flowing skirt—balancing fairy-tale femininity with freedom of movement.

It’s delicate without being overly ornate, practical without losing that princess charm. The light fabric and bare feet reflect her grounded nature, while the detailed embroidery and lace hint at her royal lineage. I wore flipflops with the costume so I would be able to be barefoot whenever possible. It certainly took the costume to another level of comfy!

Interestingly, the designers at Disney Animation studied historical fashion and modern materials to create something that felt timeless yet fresh. The dress was animated to move naturally as she ran, danced, and climbed.

Comfort and Classic Fairytale Charm

This dress is one of the better ready-to-wear costumes I’ve gotten for under $50. Though the fit had the usual cheap costume issues of the fit being a bit off, it was easy to get around by retying the top.

And it was easy to decorate and make a little extra fancy with some lace, glitter and sparkling rhinestones.
